About

Leigh Reke (Image by Isla Goldie)

As an Aberdeen-based fine-art photographer, my path in the world of photography has been a continuously evolving exploration of the traditional analogue imaging techniques. Originally recognised for my culturally diverse black and white natural light street portraits, my artistic journey took a changing turn in the beginning of 2021 – during the outbreak of the global Covid-19 pandemic, when lockdowns and social distancing measures limited my abilities to continue with portraiture. It was not an easy period in life, but the indescribable beauty of Scottish nature caught my attention and truly changed what photography means to me. I would not call myself as nauture-only photographer, would like to call myself an explorer, carefully discovering and documenting places I find beauty and peace in.

In my current body of work, I try to unveil the gentle link between wild Scottish nature and human lifestyle, tiny villages and settlements invading landscape create calming synergy I’m trying to expose. I encourage my viewers to take a moment, smell the air, take a look around, appreciate this very moment.

Zero AI/Zero crypto Statement.

I confirm, all visual materials, published on this webpage are genuine and organic – every photograph was processed in my own darkroom, developed and scanned by hand. Every painting was painted by me, using real ideas, real paint and real tools.

I promise, AI will never be used to create any art here as well as no NFTs/crypto will be used to buy/sell/donate or mint any artworks created using pure, traditional analogue photographic practices.

I believe, AI and machine learning brought nothing good to the society, but fakery, mass-surveillance and copyright infringement. I am not scared of technology – I have tried AI, it was awful, soulless, dull and boring. The aim of technology should be to become a tool for human beings, not to replace them.

100% pro-trans content

Being a part of transgender community I have learned a very valuable lesson of sharing – it is important to share your knowledge with others, especially with those willing to use it. I encourage other trans, non-binary, LGBTQI people to get in touch with me for any photographic questions they may have, more than happy to share my advice, using all knowledge I have.

Give you, Give me

As an independent artist, I earn nothing from my photography and other visual arts, however, it costs money to run this website. I really appreciate any donations that help to keep this website and my artistic journey going.
